College and Highschool

Most people wish they could relive their high school days. I was one of those people until I began college. I've attended several colleges since high school and noticed several differences and similarities between the two.
In high school, you are limited to culture and people. Most students only hang around individuals who they already know or individuals who are friends of friends. The students are struggling to find their own identities. They are constantly tying to make friends and trying hard not to make enemies. For instance, if someone in one group is mad at a person in another group then that means that everyone should be mad at that person also. In college, you are exposed to a wide range of different people. It is very important to be diverse so that one can learn about different people. Students usually join study groups or other functions to help learn other cultures and people. .
College is more flexible and high school has more structure. For example, students spend most of their time doing homework. In college, students spend more time studying. In college, there are no bells or tardy slips. In high school, students can only get a certain number of tardy slips until disciplinary action is taken. In high school, a counselor sits down and tells the student what classes should be taken. In college, you get to choose the classes as long as the student has his/her prerequisites. I must admit, I miss my mother waking me up at 7:00 in the morning to make sure I get to school on time. Now it's just me and my alarm clock.
In high school and college, teachers/professors will do all they can to help you understand a subject. However, high school teachers do not generally have office hours. They also have less privacy to meet with students. They usually teach straight from the textbook and rarely disagree on the text that is printed. College professors have time set aside for office visits.
