            com (9/22/03) Jimmy Buffet's music has been described as "shrimp boat rock", "calypso country" and "gulf and western". Jimmy Buffet has had a profound impact on American Culture do to the fact that he has been around since 1969. As stated in The Globe and Mail Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson will be performing their country-hit "It's 5 O"clock Somewhere" at the Country Music Awards in Nashville on November 5th. Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson have also been nominated for vocal event of the year for the song. This shows that Jimmy Buffet is able to cross-over from his style of music to other types such as country. Jimmy Buffet has been writing and singing music since 1969 starting in Nashville. Jimmy Buffet has built a large fan-base many of them call their selves "parrot heads". Jimmy Buffet's style of music is un-like any other artist's in today's world.
             According to The Coconut Telegraph (5/25/03) Jimmy Buffet arrived in Nashville in 1969 prepared to embark on a recording career. Jimmy was signed to a two-album contract with Barnaby Records; his first record unfortunately was a failure. But, his following album established him as a musician and song-writer. After Jimmy recorded these two albums his career really took off. He headed down to Miami for an alleged booking date. However, when he got to Miami there was no job for him. So he decided to visit an old friend instead, a friend who lived in Key West. This town he now refers to as Margaretville became a huge influence in his musical career, and still is to this day. Not many people were aware that Jimmy Buffet's musical career started in Nashville as opposed to Key West. The Encyclopedia of Rock, compiled by Nick Logan and Bob Woffinden, states that, "Buffet's talent was hardly the sort that could be straight-jacketed by Nashville's orthodox music establishment. Eventually Jimmy Buffet established a band in 1972 called Jimmy Buffet and The Coral Reefers.
