Not much has changed in the statistics and styles of conflict in a successful marriage.
McLellan, T. (2010). Sensitivity to genuine versus posed emotion specified in facial displays. .
             Cognition & Emotion, 24(8), 1277-1292.
In this article which is rather long, the emotional state of a person is not always accurately displayed with their facial expressions. Couples usually have an idea of how their partner is feeling based on how their expressions are displayed. Couples that are intoned to each other usually leads to the unaffected partner having a clue as to how the other person is feeling or thinking. Expressions are highly dynamic and very visible. Sometimes a partner does not want to let the other person know how they are really feeling so they will fake an expression so that they can avoid dealing with the true feelings that are going on between the partners. This article includes two research studies on how facial expressions can be faked and be successfully passed off as some other emotion that the other person was really feeling. There is a specific difference between a staged facial expression to that of one that is genuine and convincingly real. The bottom line is that couples need to have a certain amount of sensitivity to emotions within their relationship for the relationship to be successful.
I plan to use this case study article toward the beginning of my paper just after the introduction or I may include this at the end of my introduction. This article has a lot of good information about marriages and how facial expressions really effect how communication is used between two people. It also points out how people can fake their feelings with false facial expressions. I liked the two case studies; they really drove home how important it is to be real with a partner so that your relationship can be as successful as possible.
