This helps them to ".learn responsibility, respect for authority, sense of purpose, self-worth, sense of value of resources: time, effort, money." (Myers) .
The cost of homeschooling and the parent's lack of ability to teach their children correctly is another concern expressed by many parents. They believe the public school system can offer better books and more experienced teachers. In Georgia, a parent can homeschool their child if they have a high school diploma or a GED. If another parent is certified in a particular field, such as math or science, they may teach any children in their specialized area. The families may "arrange a skill exchange between families "(Short) so that one family is responsible for math, while another is responsible for science. Some families have "group classes with other families.to help with time issues " (Duffy) as well as the cost of books. Many homeschool moms have spent the bare minimum on foundation books because they have learned to utilize other tools (Duffy) such as their local libraries, tutoring centers and even shopping centers where math lessons are taught by calculating items purchased and taxes. (Matthews) They also use common tools such as a tape measure, saw, or hammer to teach some classes such as math and science together by measuring and building a particular project. (Bird) After considering the cost of taking a child to and from school, attending school functions, and parent teacher meetings, the cost of a few books for their education is incomparable.
