"Othello" is one of the many plays that were written by William Shakespeare. "Othello" contains a variety of characters with many different deadly sins. However I would be only writing about one, Iago. Iago's deadly sin consist of two, lust and wrath. These two deadly sins play a major role of importance to "Othello". Lust is when the person drives for pleasure, sex, power, and image; tends to get out of control. Wrath is a manifestation anger; violent, resentful, anger, rage, fury. Just by understanding the meaning for lust, and wrath you know the play is going to have a major tragic event ending in death.
Lust as I said before is when a person drives for pleasure, sex, power, and so on. An example of this is when Iago said, "I follow him to serve my turn upon him. We cannot all be masters, nor all masters Cannot be truly followed- (1:1.45-47). Also "But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve For daws to peck at. I am not what I am" (I.1:1.70-71). These two quotes talks about how Iago plans to stay by Othello's side even though his knows that he does not like him. He pretends to be loyal to Othello, but once Othello turns his back on Iago that's when he will attack, not physically. Lust takes place in these quotes because Iago's pleasure is to get revenge on Othello and Cassio, and the only way to do this is to be on Othello's good side and make Cassio (Othello's Lieutenant) look bad. .
Wrath is when violent, resentful, anger, rage, fury takes place. An example of wrath would be when Iago said, "Demand me nothing. What you know. From this time forth I never will speak word." (5:2.355-356). Iago knew that he is in trouble, and that he had no plan or a chance of getting rid of it. In the quote, he says that he is not going to speak no more because everything is true about him and everything he did is already been told. His wrath makes him say, "Yea I did it and what".
During the play Iago is going to make Cassio confess that he is having an affair with Othello's wife, Desdemona.
