The Kite Runner - The Relationship of Amir and Hassan

The "Kite Runner," by Khaled Hosseini narrates the story of a unique friendship between two young boys named Amir and Hassan. Hassan is the son of Amir and Baba's servant. They share a brother-like friendship, even though most of the brotherly love comes from Hassan's loyal heart while Amir does not fully consider him a friend. Their relationship breaks apart during a kite-flying contest when Amir betrays Hassan and does nothing to help him from getting raped. To avoid feeling miserable, Amir accuses Hassan of robbery, causing Ali and Hassan's departure and a chance to forget his remorseful guilt. Due to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, Amir and his father Baba immigrate to America leaving everything behind. .
Years pass and after a poignant phone call from long time friend Rahim Khan, Amir travels back to Afghanistan. Setting out as his main outcome, the rescue of the "Sohrab" the son of his now deceased childhood friend Hassan. The adoption of Sohrab points out that "there is a way to be good again" in Amir's life. Making up for his past mistakes and most importantly, learning to forgive. Due to the complexity but yet meaningful friendship of these two young boys, in this essay, I will be analyzing Hassan and Amir's difficult friendship.
