After the second day in the desert the illegal immigrants finally made it across the border into Arizona safe. The illegal immigrants then would call a close friend or a relative to pick them up. The reason for her decision to come live in the U.S. was because their was no jobs in Mexico. The people in Mexico were underpaid, and still are underpaid until now. The citizens of Mexico get no government assistance or any type of aid. The government in Mexico and including the presidents are corrupt. Moreover, since the government and president were and are still corrupted the increase on crimes and violence in Mexico is high. This was an event Rosalina experienced when illegal immigration was increasing in the United States. .
Rosalina paid a coyote a 1,000 US dollars to guide her through the journey in the desert. A coyote is someone who illegal immigrants pay to smuggle them across the border. Usually, the illegal immigrant pays the coyote half of the money before starting their journey. If the immigrant makes it across the border safe into Arizona, they then pay the coyote the rest of the money. It is a high risk illegal immigrant's take. "Coyotes can't always be trusted, however. Sometimes they take people's money and drop them off short off the border. Some bring people across the border but abandon them if trouble arises " (The Border).
In her early life, Rosalina went to school until third grade. In the 1920s in Mexico, they believed women didn't need a profession or a job. They believed that the woman's job was to stay home and raise the children. Men were the providers for their families. She then got married at a young age and had 10 children. Her husband, (my grandpa) was a federal agricultural inspector and made decent money. But they lived in poverty because her husband was a womanizer and spent his money splurging on other women. Rosalina wanted the best for her children, and the United States was the best solution her family.
