College - First Year Seminar

To reach the goal, firstly, they should divide their goals between long-term and short-term objects and ask critical questions about their goals: Do those goals reflect my interest and value? Do I want to make these goals a priority? If their answers are yes, the meaning is that students are ready to be aware of their responsibilities to success and monitor themselves step by step. To start with, we know that their long-term goal is to achieve a college and their short term goal is to pass a lesson in one semester, so students have to know all responsibilities to success in the lesson, such as what is the attendance policy, what is the grading policy? (How many homework, essay and exams are there?). Students can find the answers of these questions in a syllabus prepared by professors. A well-designed syllabus provides students a clear roadmap about the course, so students can make a plan and identify their priorities to fulfil their responsibilities. For example, if a student left a final exam early to make a telephone conversation, this behavior shows that the priorities are not identified effectively. In this situation, failure is evitable. Secondly, students should monitor their progress (the result of exam, homework etc.), so they will be able to know where they are and what they need to do for reaching their goals. Recording process provides them not only increasing their motivation but also making an action plan in the contrary case. Thus, students can face with their problems and eliminate on time. Hence, knowing our responsibilities and monitoring ourselves in all process will be reached us to our goal.
Being successful in college is like a completed journey successfully. In both situations, a freshman has a starting point for a destination. Now, the freshman is at the starting point and his or her destination is a Bachelor's degree. Conscious students know these points very well; they are not alone in their journey.
