Sanfranciso and the Folsom Street Fair

This is California's largest single-day outdoor spectator event. It is also world's largest leather event and showcase for BDSM products and culture. The festival has swelled to a registered non-profit charity and donates proceeds to a number of different LGBT organizations throughout the city.
When I heard about this event, I was really excited to go as it was something new for me. But when I searched about it on google, I was really surprised to see the culture of the festival; their way of dressing, people wearing leather outfits barely covering their genitals (mostly the homosexuals) including the female. They were hitting others, tying others to the pole, seems like they are gaining pleasure by experiencing them. It was like watching something weird and disgusting for me. I felt that it is the only opportunity for kinksters (one who enjoys kinky sex) to get out of their closet and show their true colors, a fetish wear everywhere. I still wanted to go there and learn or say observe that culture.
Looking at the Fair, I was really scared to see the culture where people are almost naked in the streets, hitting others, having sex in the event. I was told by my friends that it is a culture of gay and lesbians, where they are can openly say about their sexual orientation and is accepted. They seemed very happy and enjoyed being homosexuals. I told my sister, who lives here in California, about the fair and asked if we could go. After seeing some images about the fair online, she said I can go if I wanted to. I wasn't able to make up a decision to go alone and asked her if she can accompany me, to which she refused bluntly. I don't know if the ˜scare' in me was because of my culture or my values. Then somehow I didn't make up and thought that I can understand and learn about it by watching videos on YouTube and reading about it. When I watched it and read about it, tears rolled down my cheeks seeing the demonstrations of the rope play (tying the bottom/ catcher/ the taker/ the one that gets bonded), flopping, whipping, and spanking from several organizations in the fair.
