Becoming Your Own Boss

What makes someone want to become their own boss? Is it the money? Is it the reward knowing that they can do it on their own? There is a myriad of different reasons as to why someone goes into business on their own. Some people do it so that they can set their own schedule, and have more time to themselves or with their families. Some people try to go on their own so that they can reap the reward of being the only person getting paid. Many people go into business for themselves so that they can control the business, putting their view of service and their product up front, because they feel that how the big guy does it isn't how it should be done.
Why the person does it, is just about as individualized and varied as the people who decide to become self-employed and entrepreneurs.
The quest to become one's own boss, and enter the world of the entrepreneur is a hard one. It requires persistence, dedication and a thick skin. Persistence in the business world is simply sticking to your course of action and not giving up. It isn't faltering in the face of adversity, when the going gets tough, you don't give up, you keep fighting for what you want and keep your convictions alive. People who go into business for themselves must be prepared to deal with failure, and be able to overcome the failure and pick up move on, and start anew. Haifeng Zhao and Sibin Wu, Chinese and American university professors, point to the fact that Walt Disney went through two bankruptcies, and yet he was still able to start one of the greatest and most successful multimedia and entertainment corporations in the world (Zhao and Wu 1345). The big key to success is persistence. Someone must have the drive to succeed. They need to weather the storm, and rebuild when all you worked for is washed away by it.
Men are from Mars, women from Venus. The motivations behind why men and women vary greatly. The reasons for self-employment are as different as the sexes themselves.
