Ideas and Influences of Great Philosophers

Viewed as the greatest philosophers of their time and in Ancient Greece Aristotle, Socrates and Plato's works had much influence and continue to have influence in the western world to date. This is majorly because they were the developers of art, science and religion in the European, Arabic and Judaic world (Guisepi). Through their works that will be discussed herein, it will be evident that Plato's, Aristotle's and Socrates' works are still the ultimate basis of western society.
Socrates' ideas are never really documented since he never really wrote a book but just went around teaching, embarrassing and humiliating important people. However, the works of Aristotle as well as Plato are evidence that Socrates had great influence on the western world's evolution since Plato was his student and Aristotle was Plato's student thus the knowledge was passed. Plato's works which were mainly concerning political theory, theology, problems pertaining to natural science, metaphysics and the theory of knowledge (Guisepi). He believed that the soul pre-existed and that it was also immortal. In addition he viewed life as a prison for the soul whereby the soul was being imprisoned in the body (Guisepi). He also believes in a heaven beyond the world we live in whereby everything is good and ideal which is also a belief of a majority of the western societies to date known as Christianity. Christianity bases much of its arguments on theology of salvation which is a work of Plato and one's which have taken root in much of the western society where people are Christians.
In addition, Plato's most important works according to Duiker & Jackson (2012) included the Laws and the Republic. According to Plato, democracy is a good form of government (Sharma) and people tend to fancy this kind of government. However, this kind of government is prone to chaos and effects of tyranny evidenced by the Nazi of Germany, fascist of Italy and even the modern day Russia; all western societies.
