Christopher Columbus and the New World

Christopher Columbus was obsessed with attempting to make a trip westwards to Asia. He needed many things to even begin this trip such as, a crew, ship, and funding. The spanish council disapproves of his trip and does not like the idea of independent thought. Christopher gets many warnings from the monastery and gets into a brawl with the monks. He ends up lying in the courtyard to pay penance. Christopher continued his penance through a vowel of silence. Suddenly, he is met by a representative who wanted to fund his journey. He gains a meeting with the queen, Queen Isabella, who gives him the things he needed to start his journey. In exchange for this, he promised the queen he would bring back a significant amount of riches in gold. Before Christopher started his journey with his crew and ship that the queen provided, he told many of the crewmen that the voyage would only last seven weeks. He then went to confession at the monastery to relieve himself of his sins. To his surprise, the monk gave him absolution. The next morning, three ships left for the trip to Asia. The lead ship of the three was named the Santa Maria. Once it became night time, one of the crewmen observed that Christopher was navigating the ships by using the stars. Christopher was happy to teach the crewman his secret. .
The crew began to get restless because after nine weeks they still had not found any land. Also, the captains of the other ships began to turn against Christopher. One night, Christopher found some mosquitoes on the boat, this meant that land is not so far away. A couple days later, the crew looked out into the mist and found the first sight of land, an island to be exact, with sandy beaches and vegetation. .
The crewmen hopped off the ship and began to befriend the local natives. The local natives show the crewmen the gold they have collected. Christopher teaches one of the natives Spanish so that they are able to communicate.
