The USSR, Europe and WWII

In this assessment I will be looking at why the USSR to take control over Eastern Europe after World War Two. I will also look at how the USA responded to the actions of the USSR such as the Truman Doctrine, the Iron Curtain, Marshall Aid, the Berlin Blockade and the Berlin airlift. The USSR were very keen in taking over Eastern Europe. Truman wanted to stop the spread of communism while Stalin wanted to take control over Eastern Europe. Even before World War Two had ended USA and USSR was suspicious of each other. One reason in particular was because Truman didnt tell Stalin about the atomic bomb and that they were going to drop it on Japan. At the Potsdam conference in July 1945 Truman was suspicious of Stalin and said that he was behaving like a bully in Eastern Europe by creating a buffer state.
Stalin wanted to take control over Eastern Europe and doing so he created a buffer because Russia was invaded by Germany in 1812, 1914 and 19414. Stalin was keen to make sure this didnt happen again. To make things safer Stalin wanted to make Poland bigger and weaken German. Stalin wanted to weak, while USA wanted Germany to become strong again, so they can buy and sell goods off them. Stalin made Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romina and Czechlovakia buffer states, to ensure Russia wouldnt get invaded again.
There was tension between the two superpowers when they met in Yalta in February 1945. Finally after a while the three leader agreed that Germany would be split into three zones. Britain then convinced USA and USSR to allow France to have a zone. Germany was now split into four zones with, Britain, France, USA and USSR controlling each zone. Berlin was also divided into four zones. They also agreed about holding free elections in Eastern Europe. In June 1947 the Western Allies introduced a new currency called Deutschmark. In January 194, USA and Britain put their countries together and created Bizonia.
