Firearms are use in majority of homicide and suicides on college campuses. Officers make an argument that college students are impulsive, allowing a loaded gun next to a stressed out student could cause for a lot more accidents. College campus security believe that college faculty should play an active role in minimizing fire arm violence on campus. I think this source was helpful because it gave you the prespective of an expertise in crime and violence. It helps you realize that there is a logical reason as to why guns shouldn't be permitted on college campuses, coming from people (police officers) who shoot guns for a living! The second article called, Ready, Fire, Aim: The College Campus Gun Fight by Robert Birnbaum found on Change, The Magazine of Higher Learning, gives you the prespective of those for and against guns on campus. Some students believe that they should be able to carry a concealed weapon on campus due to their personal freedom, others believe guns are nothing more than instruments for mayhem. The article explains a group supporting a policy called "MoreGuns", advocates state that self-defense is a right everybody obtains, and just because you are on a college campus that right should not be compromised. "More Guns" Advocates believe they should be able to carry a weapon for their own protection, using past history examples to show that colleges can't protect them from assailants. On the opposing side are advocates for the "BanGuns" policy. They believe that a total ban of guns on college campus would drastically decrease the violence on college campuses. "BanGun" advocates believe having guns on campus will pose more risk for students/faculty and will not deter future attacks, also stating that it could cause confusion in emergency situations. If everybody was shooting at eachother during a rampage, law enforcement wouldn't be able to determine who the bad ones are.
