Choosing to Become a Nurse

My mother and my sister have been my inspiration and motivation throughout these past years. They both have been through situations that have touched me in a way just by watching them. It has helped me grow as a person. It was almost like I needed to see that in order to get through life and my career. They inspired me to become a nurse. My 23-year-old sister has 18 to 25 ideology of schizophrenia and a ceis on her brain. Neither of them was developmental. I did not know how to help my sister until things got really serious. She started behaving certain ways that I couldn't understand and I needed to be there for her. But when I started doing my research, I found out that she has something that she could not control. I've learned to be a little bit more patient with her and other people. I finally became more understanding of her situation. .
When my mother was ill years ago, I felt like life was not worth anything and I felt like I was not worth anything. I started taking care of her before she went into the nursing home. I sung to her sometimes, helped her get up and out of her seat, cooked for her, held her hand, etc. doing those things made me realize that I can be nurturing to people and make them feel better while they are at a lowest point in their life. It is not easy watching someone you are very close to struggle with sickness. My mother's situation has made me want to help people who are in need to get back on their feet and get their health back on track. .
Becoming a nurse has been my dream for quite some time now. I believe nursing is one of my talents. It is not just something I am good at but I believe that it holds a purpose in my life. I want to experience different patients with different situations. I know that it will not always be easy dealing with different people but it is better to learn now before stepping out into the real world. Helping my mother and my sister in their situations has helped me become more caring, persistent, and patient.
