Crime and Violence in America


            "We won't be able to stop every violent act but if there is even one thing that we can do to prevent any of these events we have a deep obligation, all of us to try." - President Obama.
             Everyday the morning news and papers bring us news of robbery and murders, kidnapping and rapes, hold ups of trains and hi-jacking of planes. Crime rates have varied over time with a sharp increase right after World War II. Crime rates in the United States were much more higher compared to other countries, 198 homicides had happened in the city of Chicago in 1916. Between the time of 1970's to early 1990's crime had quadrupled, property crime more than doubled over the same period. There is no actual way for one to find out the reasons behind crime but there is many reasons that may explain why.
             1.The Great Depression which was caused by the fall of stock prices that began September 4th 1929 then became world wide after the stock market crash. The Great Depression had lasting effects on the rich and poor old and even young. Personal income, tax revenue, profits and prices dropped by more than 50%. Unemployment in the U.S rose to 25% and in some countries it was as high as 33% cities all over were hit hard with no jobs no money people were left with nothing else but to commit violent acts of crime to get by.
             2. The Great Recession was another cause of very high crime rates. The Great Recession of June 2009 had world unemployment at a heaping 200 billion.
             3. Psychologist say that poor parenting skills erratic and harsh discipline, lack of parental control, Alcoholic and anti-social parents. .
             4.Fatherlessness is one of the most underestimated reasons why crime is so high. 85% children who live in a home without a father show more dysfunctional behavior .80% of rapist with anger issues come from fatherless homes. 85% youth who grew up in jail are also from fatherless homes.
             5.Geography has great effects on crime where you live affects your chances of becoming a victim of crime weather you are the one committing it or a victim of it.
