It can most certainly affect a college student's performance in academics. A student is eager to learn because they want to make their loved ones proud. That being said, students are likely to get higher test scores and are more likely to be engaged in their classes. A college student's family and friends are their main support system and those are the types of people that can help motivate a college student to get past obstacles that may arise and to always do their best. For a college student, the top priority in school is to get good grades in order to graduate and get into the career or position they want and this way comfort food helps.
             Comfort food can also help a college student connect with their culture, which in turn can help them do well socially in college. One of the most important things a college student should be able to do is communicate with others effectively. It is obvious that when a person is depressed they tend to be reserved and they isolate themselves from the world. In college, there are students who come from other states as well as different countries from around the world with different backgrounds. These students are not able to visit home as often, so comfort food helps these students reconnect with their cultures. People seem to have a connection with others of the same culture, which makes them feel significant. When people are depressed, they usually have negative thoughts about how they are not important. Having this connection of significance can reduce depression and the person can move on to interact others. When a college student can relate to others it can help distract the person from their negative thoughts. In college developing social networks is important because it can aid someone to find out about opportunities for their field of interest. When you know the right people, your chances of succeeding in college and in your career become greater.
