Uniforms and Student Behavior

Student's behavior plays a major role in the learning atmosphere of the classroom. For over 30 years, the idea of school uniforms and their effect on student's behavior has been suggested as a way to cut down on behavior issues. If students feel safe and secure they are more prepared to learn. In 1996, during his state of the Union Address, Bill Clinton suggested that school uniforms could solve school violence. Often students are bullied and picked on because of the clothing that they wear. Gangs also use clothing to represent to the other students what gang they are in often by the color of clothing they are wearing. A frequent debate is rather school uniforms could help improve student behavior. .

             Review of the Literature.
As students prepare for a new school year they are wanting to go to a happy and safe environment. They anticipate what their teacher will be like, who will be in their class, and what they will learn in the upcoming years. With the growth in school violence and shootings, students are becoming more aware of the dangers in school that they will have to face. School districts are actively looking for ways to help decrease these fears.
