Our Bully Nation

Bullying in our country is becoming a growing epidemic. Especially with all the different types of bullying, like cyber, physical, and mental. Sometimes it can be hard to crackdown on every single case. According to the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, youth in the LGBT community, youth with disabilities, and socially isolated youth are prone to being bullied. About 70 percent of youth ages 12-19 have witnessed some type bullying but did not act on the incident. Thousands of bullying cases go unresolved, and in the James Jones incident the same was happening. On September 03, 2010, James Jones' 10 year old daughter told her parents of the problems she was having on her school bus with bullies and then Jones, in an attempt to defend his daughter, entered her school bus and began to scold his daughter's alleged tormentors. Someone on the bus had to take notice of what was going on but did nothing of it. It probably would have gone on for a while longer if she had not told her parents. I do not condone or agree with how James went about defending her but the fact is that he defended her. If there were more people stepping up and doing the right thing, were more monitoring, on the bus this incident would not have happened. .
Children with disabilities such as physical, developmental, intellectual, emotional, and sensory disabilities are at an increased risk of being bullied. Children with special educational needs are three times more likely to be bullied than their peers. Children with disabilities are more likely to get picked on because of there physical or mental "differences" Most special needs kids have reported being taunted, threatened and sometimes even physically hurt. When reporting bullying disabled youth were told not to tattle almost twice as often as youth counterparts. James Jones' daughter Chatari Jones suffers from cerebral palsy, Cerebral palsy is a disorder that affects communication, posture and other motor skills.
