Bullying - From School to Cyberspace

Cyberbullying is getting more and more attention especially from social media. With the rise of cell phone technology and a general lack of accountability, cyberbullying is affecting a substantial number of people including: teens, children, and young adults. A good example of cyberbullying took place from an average, well-known girl. She got decent grades, liked to hang out with friends, played on the soccer and softball team at her local school; plus, even was involved in some of the school's clubs'. One day there were a bunch of the other classmates starring at her and whispering to one another, but just went on with her business. Later in the day she heard some of her classmates muttering nasty comments about her and starting rumors throughout the school. Later that evening she opened up her email to find ten emails from classmates she has never spoken to about rumors that were not true. In addition, there were posts all over Facebook about the rumors that were being spread around that day at school. .
The next day came and she acted like nothing had happened, but everyone was acting so strange towards her. Several weeks went by and nothing had changed. Therefore, she decided that she could not take it anymore and wanted to switch schools. She had finally confessed to her parents about all of what had been happening knowing they knew something was up. After that, her parents went to the school and talked with the principle about everything. Her parents decided to allow her to switch schools if she still wanted to even though the school was going to take care of the problem. Several years down the road she is walking around town as a happy, young adult. Cyberbullying among students may just be the name calling or gossiping, but cyberbullying can go as far as a sentence of threatening about the student or a death threat. Therefore, schools and parents are responsible for educating there students or kids on dangerous effects of cyberbullying.
