Obama and the Affordable Care Act


            In this paper, I will be discussing how President Obama managed to get the new law into effect and all the obstacles that he overcame. I will also be discussing the different titles of the Affordable Care Act. The Washington Post is an American daily Newspaper. It is the widest newspaper that is published in Washington D.C. The Washington Post was founded in 1877, and has won 47 Pulitzer Prizes. The Washington Post is also known as the namesake of the 1889 The Washington Post March. .
             Obama accomplished what no president for decades had been able to achieve. He reenacted the landmark legislation that guarantees every American health care. "On March 21st, 2010 congress approved the sprawling bill"(pg.5) which meant that Obama could address the nation. Approving this bill meant the nation will be able to have insurance. Obama and Nancy Pelosi were against abortion. However when it came to rape, incest or other medical reasons towards the mother. Furthermore, Representative Louise M. Slaughter was a member of congress who believed that abortion was the right thing to do. President Obama made an appearance to the Rose Garden to praise the house for its votes. When Senator Joseph L. Lieberman appeared on "Fox News Sunday" he wouldn't allow this bill to come to a final vote. The house and the senate still had things to work out, but the democrats are still hopeful that the healthcare reform, or the quest that the health-care reform, will become a reality. Obama had one last chance to pass the bill. "On January 19th, 2010 with a political crisis about to explode the president had to summon the top two democrats in congress for a strategy session for the health care reform" (pg.49) On Capitol Hill, there are many fears because of the electoral wipeout in the November elections were coursing through the democratic ranks because of the upset in Massachusetts. Law makers were still furious because Obama was still leaving all the hard work to them.
