Exercise, Medication and Reducing Stress

Exercise and healthy living have been proven to be safer and effective alternative to medication for reducing stress. Regular exercise, setting personal goals and counseling can effectively reduce stress and avoid prescription medications. My conclusion was based on research among 10 female high school students, studies found on the internet and personal experience. Everyone suffers from stress but the amount of stress and its symptoms varies. Symptoms are hard to diagnose and left untreated can lead to some serious conditions such as anxiety and depression. The first signs of stress are generally mental. Symptoms include a feeling of being overwhelmed, and tiredness. If left untreated the condition worsens and physical conditions may appear such as weight gain or loss, headaches, binge eating, and sleep disorders. At this stage medication maybe required. Everyone has the ability to control stress and avoid more serious conditions and medications. It is all about changing your thoughts, understanding the reasons for stress, and setting goals to improve well-being and self-confidence. Exercise and healthy living are a safe and effective alternative to medication for stress reduction. Running, walking, weight training and dancing are excellent ways to help set a routine. A routine will help allow for better time management, setting goals, clearing the mind changing thoughts, and building self-confidence. People suffering from emotional problems or experiencing physical changes should combine exercise and healthy living with counseling.
My research topic is controversial because questions are raised about how many patients are being misdiagnosed with depression and prescribed anti-depressant medications. These medications can have some harmful side effects, suicide, addiction, and misuse. Stress and depression are two words that are often misunderstood. Many of the symptoms overlap such as emotional and behavioral problems.
