Racism has been around for so long it has slowly become a tolerance for many African Americans. For many years after the Civil War, when blacks were set free, the black population was almost never treated equal until around the late nineteenth century. Tom Robinson, O. J. Simpson, and Rodney King are victims of racism and many others like them in this country are also victims of the same thing. Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white woman, O. J. Simpson is arrested for supposedly murdering his ex-wife along with her friend, and Rodney King was ruthlessly beaten nearly to death by the L.A.P.D. on March 3, 1991.
In the fictional novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, there is also a case of racism in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s. His name was Tom Robinson, a fellow member of Maycombs small black community. There are three other main characters in the story and, there names are: Atticus who was Toms attorney and a father to a boy and girl named Jem and Scout. Mr. Robinson is being charged with an account of raping Mayella Ewell in her home. Mr. Ewell threatened Atticus by saying that he will get his revenge on him for protecting Tom Robinson. The jury of choice where all white farmers and locals, now Toms only hope lies in Atticus hands. After hours of testimony and speeches along with witness accounts but, Tom still lost the trial and he knows that Atticus had did his best defending him. If people werent so racist back then Tom would have won the case but, back then blacks didnt have many pribleages and rights. Soon after the trial Tom Robinson escaped from the jail house and was killed by multiple gunshot wounds all over him(Lee, Harper).
