Asian Music in American Culture

Then I want to present several great but not very well-known Asian artists from different serious music genre to show that the impression of Asian American music should go beyond those popular Asian songs.
             Artist.
             I want to invite artists who were shown in the 'Forbidden City' Documentary. Forbidden city was a Chinese nightclub that has been compared to an Asian-American version of Cotton Club because it featured an all-ethic cast of performers for a mostly white audience and performers acted to the popular tastes of the time rather than in stereotyped or authentic ethnic roles. For the stage setting, an old-fashion TV frame will be set as background with '1940s' written on it. And the artists will be wearing Chinese traditional dress from the Qing Dynasty and singing soft, slow, typical Chinese melody for a few munities. Then they will change into modern clothes and start swinging and performing jazz. Their dancing songs are energetic and modern, which form a strong contradiction with traditional Chinese melody. This group will show how Chinese or Asians first broke the stereotype and became known in America when Chinese population was less than 1% of the population in US. .
             Second, the stage will be set in modern style. I want to invite Psy, the Korean singer who performed 'Gangnam Style'. He will perform the song with a Korean dancing group from his video. The song was one of the very few Asian music pieces that were frequently played by radio stations in America. The sounding of the song can not be categorized as pleasant or intriguing, but featured only with heavy electronic beats and repeated lyrics of skewed 'gangnam image'. I chose him is because I feel he is only popular in America because he fits the stereotype of being a 'foreigner' and his chubby appearance and goofy dancing performance meet many American's expectation of Asian artist to be 'different' in a funny way.
