Napoleon Bonaparte was the key leader to help execute the domestic reforms the revolution had come up with during their reign of revenge on the king. He did this during the time of when he ruled the french in his empire,1799-1815. Napoleon took the ideas of the French Revolution and made them into domestic reforms, that both upheld and undermined the Revolution. This consists of educational and religious reforms that upheld, while political and civil libertie reforms undermined the Revolution. .
One way the goals of the revolution were upheld, was by Napoleon's educational reform, which allowed education for everyone. "Only the privileged went to school, which were run by The Church. Pupils were taught respect for elders and religion."(Miss Lavelle) Back during the reign of the king, Louis XVI, this is what he felt was right and that others part of the estate system should not be granted the privilege to have an education. The Revolution had other ideas. They believed that school was for everyone. "Revolutionaries proclaimed that school was for everyone, and state schools were even proposed, but none were set up."(Miss Lavelle) This made napoleon fell the need to uphold that for he had the same views, except he added a little more for himself. Napoleon decided to make schools for everyone and introduced four grades for schools. These grades consisted of primary, secondary, lycees (school run on military lines) and technical schools. Lots of these schools were focused on obedience and military action. But, in secondary school, science and maths became a big part of education. Therefore, Napoleons reform and the revolutionaries idea of education were the same, which leads to Napoleon upholding the revolution. Napoleon and his ideas of education were very well thought out, not only to give people what they wanted but also what he wanted, military focus.
Another way the goals of the revolution were upheld, was by Napoleon's religious reform of toleration, which was to amend the broken bond of the church and the people.
