During these genocides the entire world stayed away from the countries and didn't act until it was too late to do any good. Yes after World War Two we held the a conference and stated that the countries had state sovereignty, and other countries couldn't participate in these affairs, but the World needs to realize that the state sovereignty should no longer apply if the government fails to protect its own people from mass murder, genocide or any other crimes against humanity. State sovereignty should only be able to protect the countries from so much until someone else needs to step in and help save the countries people before it is too late.
After World War Two the Genocide Convention was held among the United Nations. This is where all of the countries in the United Nations decided that genocide cannot occur again. With this being said, the United Nations all signed this document in hopes of genocide finally being put to an end. This lasted about thirty years until the next large scale .
genocide in 1975, this is when the Cambodian genocide began. The document itself gave a large amount of leeway to countries with state sovereignty and when it can only go so far until someone else needs to step in. Overall the international community has been ineffective against preventing genocide although all of the countries who signed the document agreed with the terms.
The world needs to realize that if genocide cannot be contained by its own country, among its borders then someone needs to intervene. Genocide affects everyone, and it's best that every time that genocide occurs among other countries that someone else steps in and stops the genocide before countless lives are lost. The international community needs to better communicate on the Genocide Convention on how many lives have to be lost before the mass murders can be considered genocide. Once these strong forces begin the mass killings of a race, stopping them will not be easy.
