Each new technology brings about an influx of alternative technologies in an attempt to improve, adapt, and expand on the original concept. Computers and technological devices are becoming more capable of some things that even we cannot do without much time and energy spent. Computers are talking to us, telling us which restaurant we should go to tonight, helping us drive, and diagnosing patients. This is all due to continuous competition among companies and technology producers to get the newest and greatest thing out there. Of course, this is all done for profit but capitalism values and encourages growth and rivalry. Especially in terms of technology, where there is always something better to be turned into profit, this leads to a civilization that is perpetually changing, improving, and advancing beyond the contemporary norms. .
Take for instance, the iPad, which is capable of doing nearly everything a computer can, with more adequate viewing capacity than an iPhone. This revolutionary device created a huge market for tablets. Every major digital device company decided that it needed something to compete with Apple's iPad, but an even better version. Amazon's Kindle, Samsung's Galaxy Note, Microsoft's Surface Pro, Google's Nexus 10 and Sony's Xperia Tablet Z are only a few that come to mind when I think of the huge shift to tablets that was made after the iPad was released. These top producers needed to follow the trend. Apple couldn't be the only one producing this device and making a profit from it. Companies like Microsoft and Google had to come up with their own version of an iPad, one that would attract customers looking for a tablet, but maybe not one from Apple. Looking at it from a capitalist perspective, these companies couldn't and wouldn't sit back and allow Apple to become the monopoly provider of tablets. They needed the latest thing. They looked into and followed the trend, feeding it with production of their own devices.
