Texting and Driving


            Texting and driving is one of the main causes in teenage deaths. Teenagers like to think that their invincible, that nothing can hurt them but they fail to realize that they are not bulletproof. Being a teenager we don't think that if we text and drive that we can crash, we think that we're better than everyone and smarter so that it won't endanger our lives. In Florida we have a law to prevent texting and driving, yet in the last year roughly about 2,430 people were killed in motor vehicle collisions, so the law is not really being enforced. When a teenager first gets their license it's like giving a fallen angel wings, teenagers are so happy because it's a step towards freedom. Many teenagers pledge to not text and drive, however 40% of those teenagers still do. Commercials are made not just to make us sad, but it's to open our eyes to see that the devil never sleeps so don't risk your life just because you live by a motto that says "oh but that's not going to happen to me". .
             Growing up we have a tendency of saying "gosh I can't wait till I'm 16 so I can drive." Teenagers think that they can take whatever comes their way, but that's not true. I had a friend who decided that if he left a party with his friends, while they were all tipsy it was okay but it wasn't, he died that night. That night that I got the phone call saying Michael passed away was the worst phone call ever. The toll from what he decided that night will be something his family carries with them forever. Drinking and driving and texting and driving are the devils two favorite games to play with teenagers. If teenagers like testing their lives then the devil doesn't mind participating in helping. In 2012, there was 55 underage drinking and driving accidents to where they ended up dead. Liz Marks was a young girl that was popular who had the world at her feet, but she let the world slip out of her hand by texting and driving.
