Gender Violence in Bangladesh

This paper attempts to look into the levels of such contradictions, and those processes through which the perpetuation, imposition and internalisation of male–dominant values occur. In this respect, the Bangladesh state intervenes on two levels, one in the sphere of the reproduction of labour, and seconds on the level of social or ideological reproduction, which help to keep intact existing discriminating practices among gender relations. .
Meghna Guhathakurta - Gender Violence in Bangladesh.
As far as biological reproduction is concerned, the Bangladesh state follows an interventionist strategy through its birth-control and family planning policies. The problem of overpopulation, and hence the necessity to control it, has been given top consideration by the government of Bangladesh, as an issue which is integrally related to the development-process. This is reflected in the Second Five Year Plan.2 Some scholars tend to think that the focus given to the overpopulation thesis as being of the main cause of poverty, is grossly exaggerated and highly inaccurate.3 Rather this line of thinking tends to divert attention away from more crucial factors underlying poverty and underdevelopment e. g. unequal distribution of resources .and ends up by making the poor responsible for their own misery. Instead of entering into the debate of wether this area should receive top priority or not, we shall simply maintain, that the population problem has been defined and formulated not wholly indigenously, but to a large extent at the instigation and assistance of donor countries, and organizations. The population explosion related as it is with the gradual shrinking of the world's resources, is a global phenomena which affects rich as well as poor countries. A further area of concern specifically for certain development capitalist states, is that of overpopulation combining with poverty to from a breeding ground for the seeds of rebellion.
