Make Learning the New Cool

As I would sit there in class I could hear my teacher's monotone rant, but I couldn't concentrate, it was too hot, also I could hear the drone from the broken air conditioner, and just couldn't wait to hear the bell that would release me on my break. This was what it came to, for the classes that didn't motivate me to learn, I became bored and listening to the teacher became an exercise in futility. My school education quality varied from year to year, some years I had the worst teachers, whom would do the minimum to teach and help us grasp the concepts other years I had the best teachers imaginable and felt really lucky. I would love to go to those classes because I was challenged to think and associate my learning with the real world, and wasn't solely sitting there taking in facts. In "Idiot Nation," and "Against School," Michael Moore and John Taylor Gatto disagree with the American School System and believe it has set students to fail. I concur with their idea because there are many problems with the public education system today. Schools are not preparing us enough, we do not have the teachers we need, there also seems to be a lack of engagement that is created by this system of teach, teach, teach, where students do not get to see past the lecture and don't get to see how their education will help them in real world situations. In order to improve our school system we must create a system that encourages learning, encourages teaching, and prepares our students for the future. .
Encouraging learning is a sure way to improve our educational system. This will create a system where students will love to learn, and boredom will not be an option in their agenda. Engaging students in there learning by showing them real world uses for their education will definitely inspire them to learn. John Taylor Gatto explains how students want to learn something real, "Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as I often did, why they felt so bored, they always gave the same answers: They said the work was stupid, that it made no sense, that they already knew it.
