The Seriousness of Climate Change

Professor and psychologist Dave Canter describes human activity and interest extremely complicated to influence. Discussions about today's society have covered the complexity of communications between one another. Throughout the years, the social complexity of our generation has increased with the advances in technology and ways to communicate. "Human activity is always part of a multifaceted flux of psychological, domestic, social, economic, political and cultural forces. Climate change itself is a part of complex social, biological and technical process. Bringing all of these issues together to save the planet is a very tall order indeed." (Canter) With all the aspects of our complex society, it is almost impossible for one topic to stay in the headlines for more than weeks at a time. Even huge problems such as climate change or the economy don't stay long in the media. Our culture is based upon so many different characteristics that climate change isn't destined to be an attention-grabbing subject.
Political scientist, Roger Pielke Jr, suggests the possibility that nature will fix itself when it comes to climate change. Pielke agrees that climate change needs to be taken seriously, but also thinks that the response to climate change needs to be more realistic than what most people are stating. "But what should be unavoidably obvious about the delay between any reduction in emissions and their corresponding effects on climate is that the only policies that can have a perceptible effect on the impacts of climate are necessarily adaptive in nature." (Pielke) It is inevitable that the climate change problem will solve itself as time goes by. Pielke describes it to be pretty obvious. Not many people have this mindset that nature will continue to go on and be nature but it is definitely an important concept to grasp. However, this doesn't mean that we don't stop caring for the environment like Pielke agrees.
