Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin


Hitler used "Suppression of Opposition" and "Coercions of Force" to eliminate those who threatened his newly acquired power. With the use of his secret police or the Gestapo, Hitler eliminated the leaders of his S.A. and all the other leaders that were seen as a threat to his leadership. This was known as the "Night of the Long Knives" which led to Hitler declaring himself as Führer. Individual Rights and Freedoms, Self-Interest, and Rule of Law were greatly rejected because no one was allowed to create their political party. They did not have any choice when it comes to a political party because only the Nazis were present. Rule of Law was also rejected because even when suspected of going against the Nazis the secret police had the right to execute them.
             Germany was successful in getting the German speaking nation-states by implementing Lebensraum. They invaded the Rhineland, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland. They were also successful in portraying Hitler as charismatic leader, father figure because with again the use of propaganda. Hitler did not let anyone release a picture of him but when he did he made sure that he was portrayed as a hero of Germany and someone who is God-like--one of the techniques of totalitarianism which is cult of personality. He was successful also in indoctrinating Nazism. Everything has to be Nazi farmers to Nazi doctors and from Nazi hospitals, Nazi schools to Nazi organization. Youth were also indoctrinated through the Hitler Youth Movement. Book burning also helped because they were able to rewrite history in a way that the kids and even the older ones would support Nazism. He was also successful economically. By 1936 the unemployment rate drop from 6 million this is because of the DEF or the German work force, which was compulsory labour for a year. Public work projects also helped Germany economically since it gave a lot of people jobs.
