             The background for my assignment is to examine an organisation of my choice and to establish its structure and its external environment to determine the impact of these elements on the performance of this organisation. .
             The organisation I have chosen is The Catwalk Hair and Tanning Salon in Durrow Co Laois. This organisation has been in business since 2008 as a hair salon and recently added its tanning bed in 2014. The proprietors name is Claire-Anne Alley. (See Appendix 1).
             AIM.
             The aim of this assignment is to investigate an organisation of my choice to establish its structures/functions and its external environment and to determine the impact of these factors on the performance of the organisation I have chosen. The resources I am going to use within this assignment are my theory book, class notes, the internet and I will also call into 'The Catwalk' and speak with the proprietor. .
             ORGANIZATIONAL TYPE.
             According to Douglas, A. (2012, pp.4-21) the following are different types of business organisations:.
             Partnership: This is usually used for professional practice, such as solicitors or accountants, it is owned by a minimum of 2 people up to a maximum of 20 to 50 people. The profits are shared out between the partners but the liability is also shared between them meaning that all the decision making is not the sole responsibility of one person. .
             Companies.
             There are six main types of companies– .
             Public Limited Company – Is a company which has offered shares to the general public and has limited liability. More capital can be gained by going public through share capital. Seven or more stockholders and a minimum of two directors are required to form such a company. .
             Private Limited Companies.
             The requirements for formation of a private limited company are usually the same as a public limited company. This is the most popular type of commercial organisations in Ireland. There needs to be a minimum of two shareholders and a maximum of fifty shareholders.
