Beware of the in Crowd

In "Beware of the in Crowd," Michelle Orecklin, a writer for Time magazine states that schoolyard bullies my not always be so easy to identify. Bullying has been happening for as long as there has been school. There are studies going on that prove that bullies may not be who we think they are. Bullies are likely to be the most popular kids in school. Bulling is defined as persistent teasing, name calling, and/or social exclusion. They say that bulling is most acute in the middle school years, when they are establishing the groups and power of groups. Boys bully with more taunting, threatening, while girls usually threat to spread rumors or inflict social exclusion. The article also says that not all are the cool kids, some are the kids trying to avoid it themselves. William Pollack, a psychologist and author is also worried that this rise in bullying due to lack of family communication. Thousands of children miss school each day in fear of being picked on. These children experience academic problems but also physical problems such as stomachaches, and headaches. Bullies are most likely to come from a house without good discipline, leading to not being able to solve problems the right way. In the end the author states that if you are blaming one kid, your missing the whole point. .
In this article the main point is that she is trying to prove a point that sometimes bullies may be the most popular kids or maybe they might be the most unpopular kids in school. She also states that bullying might also be caused from families that do not show enough discipline to their children, or maybe it is caused by kids that are trying to react to being bullied themselves. The popular ones are never stereotyped into the class of bullies because their peers and teachers adore them and some want to hang out with them. Orecklin is saying that we might not always be classifying the right people as bullies.
