I-DEAS Evaluation

Entering this semester I had currently only used any CAD software for one semester. The first thing that I liked about IDEAS was that it used a lot of the same commands as the software I had used prior. This made the process of creating my basic parts a lot easier because I knew what some of the commands did. Another thing I liked about IDEAS is that it had the history tree. It made life easy sometimes when I really did not understand why something was happening so I could go back and take a look to see what I had done. The next thing that I liked about IDEAS was that it had the "quick" buttons. By "quick" buttons I mean F1, F2, F3, along with the mouse. These buttons made parts go faster by being able to adjust a part to just how it needs to be. The fourth thing that I liked about IDEAS was that you could preview everything that you did or that the program would ask you if you were sure you wanted to do this operation. It made sure that you were not doing something that you really did not want to do.
Being a beginner when it comes to CAD, there were also a few things I did not know or did not like about the IDEAS software. I really did not like how it ran so poorly on low budget machines. Instead of just slowing down it started loosing things and doing things you did not want it to do. Another thing that I did not like was that there was no undo button. As a beginner I make a few mistakes and it is really hard to go back and fix them in this program due to the lack of a good undo button. The next thing that I didn't like was that it needed two files to save your work. With computers files are ruined everyday. This just makes a better chance of something happening to the part that I have created. The fourth thing that I didn't like about IDEAS was that you needed to go into a different part of the program every time you needed to do something else, Master modeler, drafter, assembler, and so on.
