The Bible

The bible is the bestseller of all times. It is also the least read, the most misquoted and the most misunderstood book of the centuries. The confusion lies in the reader's lack of understanding that the Bible combines sixty-six different books written by different men over diverse periods of history. When we compare the two main divisions of the Bible, we find they have a common theme and one central person.
The Old Testament is a compilation of thirty-nine books written by different men over a period of fifteen hundred years. The first book of the Bible is entitled Genesis which means "beginnings." God reached out of Eternity and set in motion the beginning of time, of space, and of our world as we know it. The Old Testament begins with God's love and His creation of man. The concepts of sin, salvation, deliverance and restoration are introduced in this section. God's relationship with man begins through Adam. When God is separated from Adam and thus all mankind, through Adam's disobedience, God sets up a program of restoration so that He can have fellowship with His children anew. Written in the Hebrew language, the Old Testament explains the covenant agreement God made with man about his salvation before Christ came. This was a covenant of Law. God instituted a sacrificial system along with feasts and festivals the people were to observe. In keeping these, the people were rehearsing the future events, in the form of symbols and patterns, that foretold of the ultimate sacrifice God would make.
In comparison, the New Testament contains twenty-seven books and was written over a period of one hundred years. The last book of the New Testament is called Revelation which means "endings." This is appropriate because the New Testament explains the finished work of Christ on the cross, the end of sin's power over believers in Jesus and the end of Satan's control over death, hell and the grave.
