My memoir

The final seconds tick off the clock, another loss for Pines charter. Geoff has felt a loss before but this one really him sick to his stomach. When you lose a game by a single touchdown it always hurts more. Those games make you think that if you had only tried a little harder you could have pulled through with the win. In reality though, Geoff had tried hard; in fact he was really far sicker than he had felt. You see, that day and the night before, his throat hurt and he had a decent fever going. That game he huffed and puffed much more than he normally did, even for a day game.
That was the third day that I felt as if I was trapped in my body. It had betrayed me, this sacred temple of being, and robbed me of my weekend as well. Monday I woke up and went to school. The usual bantering with my friends helped call to my attention that it hurt a little whenever I spoke. I also saw that my throat was a little swollen. Copping out of class before school started, the doctor's office squeezed me in since it was early on a Monday morning. My doctor concluded that I likely had a simple infection in my lymph nodes and throat and that penicillin would do the trick. I've heard of penicillin, but all I really knew was that it was supposedly the panacea of common illnesses and that oddly enough my father was allergic to it .
I followed the doctor's three pills, three times a day regimen which after one or two weeks would surely cure me One day goes by, then two then three, still nothing. Thursday at three in the morning I awoke and felt warm like I had a fever and my upper body burned with the red of a thousand Canadian suntans. I woke my parents up and they didn't pay much attention, or at least I gathered as much since they went right back to bed. I went back to sleep as quickly as I could because the next day was Friday, and more importantly game day. Naturally it was another 4:00 game.
