English Essay, Lord of the Flies

When the island in the book is first described to you, you can't help but think that it is a beautiful island with all the features of paradise. A safe place for the boys who have crashed on it, away from school, bullies, homework and the war. It seems there is nothing better. .
When a closer look is taken to the beautiful island, it still has its features of beauty except for the long scar where the plane has crashed through the forest. This island is uninhibited you must remember, it has no adults to watch over the boys who are stuck on it and inevitably there is going to be conflict on some level. Sadly for the boys they do not get on well. Sadly, due to the fact that there is no way of getting out of the conflict and also due to the fact that there are no older people to help to resolve disputes; the arguments they have get more and more primitive and as a result, more and more violent. There is no control on the island; the only thing that keeps peace it seems is the conch and even the boys squabble about that.
I would to make a start by talking about the boys themselves. The ones we meet first are Ralph and Piggy. But we do not know their names, we are introduced to them as "the fair haired boy" and Piggy is known as "a shorter fat boy who called to him." These boys have done nothing in the novel to make us have a bad opinion towards them it is only when Ralph first speaks to Piggy that we see he is a bully. Immediately he torments Piggy. Piggy makes it very clear that he does not want to be called by his nickname at his old school. And seemingly in a friendly enquiring way, Ralph asks what it was, and the moment he finds out he bursts out laughing and teasing Piggy. .
Ralph, though he has very good looks and seems quite normal, also has strange obsessions with things. He likes fire which is one of the things that is bad on the island; he also joins in the murderous dance that kills Simon.
