Abortion

The topic of abortion is anything but simple, and our laws governing the matter are always changing to try to achieve a middle ground. The word abortion alone provokes strong emotion in both women and men. There are many different viewpoints on abortion and it is important to exam both sides of the abortion controversy. Abortion has been around for centuries in the United States and to understand how abortion became a social issue and how it developed you must explore the history of it. Over the centuries there have been dramatic changes in abortion procedures and the emotions of the people have become more intense. .
Abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth; it results in the death of an embryo or a fetus. There is no way to reverse the procedure so women have to be one hundred percent sure that they want to have an abortion before they actually do it. Abortion emotionally and physically effects the woman. Even though women are asleep during the procedure and do not feel physical pain, many wake up with the emotional pain that their child is dead, which results to depression. A woman is also effected physically because each time she has an abortion she destroys her body. With each abortion her reproductive system is broke down and eventually she may become sterile. .
The abortion controversy has two main view points, the view against abortion is known as pro-life and the view for abortion is pro-choice. Pro-life activists base their beliefs on their religious ideals and the pro-choice activists focuses on the individual rights of women. Pro-choice activists believe that woman have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies. Some pro-choice believers think that abortion liberates a woman not only from child-raising but also from months of uncomfortable pregnancy and from the pain and danger of childbirth. Pro-life activists believe that the unborn child has rights; the right to life and those rights should be protected.
