Romeo And Juliet

Benvolio then starts mocking Tybalt and replies " and but one word with one of us? Couple it with something, make it a word and a blow." Then Tybalt says " Thou consortest with Romeo." He is suggesting that Romeo and Mercutio are homosexual and Mercutio then glares at him and gives him evil looks. Benvolio says " We talk here in the public haunt of men; either withdraw unto some private place, or reason coldly of your grievances, or else depart; here all eyes gaze on us." .
To this he replies " Men's eyes were made to look, and let them gaze; I will not budge for no mans pleasure.".
Saying this is of great contrast of what we are told in the beginning of the play as Benvolio talks about leaving and going home because it is " hot days" but here he is saying "coldly". .
In addition, at the start of the play, we are told that the Prince of Verona has passed a law saying that the two families were not allowed to fight in public. So here, Benvolio is saying, " just leave it or go down some back street and fight otherwise were all going to get in trouble and it isn't worth it." Nevertheless, Mercutio will not stop lairing no matter what Benvolio is saying. Tybalt is not there to talk to Mercutio, and does not move an inch when Mercutio is trying to wind him up. Romeo then appears on the scene and Tybalt says to Mercutio " Peace be with sir, here comes my man." He walks up to Romeo and tries to make him angry by saying " Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this, thou art a villain." This does not work, and Romeo replies " Tybalt, the reason I have to love thee, doth much excuse the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain am I none; therefore farewell, I see thou knowest me not.".
Tybalt is getting angrier and angrier here because Romeo will not fight. He insults Romeo by saying " Boy, this shall none excuse the injuries that thou hast done me, therefore turn and draw.
