             We the audience see Irene as a very lonely woman, with no real friends and who also holds a negative outlook on life. She also likes to take things into her own hands and, in the end, make them seem more than they really are. This is said because she seem to be always writing letters and yet when viewing situations she is in the same position looking out the window.
             "Come up on Miss Ruddock sitting on a dinning chair in the window." "Dusk." (p47).
             "Come up on Miss Ruddock sitting in an easy chair reading the news paper." "Afternoon" (p46).
             "I had a little Awayday to London last year and it was dog dirt everywhere. I spotted some on the pavement right outside Buckingham Palace. I wrote to the Queen about it." (p46).
             Irene thinks that she is a good judge of character. She thinks that it is alright to interfere with people's business and it is just a general and genuine concern for the people who live around her.
             "We"re asking you because who was it wrote to the chemist saying his wife was a prostitute? We"re asking you because who was it gave the lollipop man a nervous break down? I said if they were caring young couple why did you never see the "kiddy"?" (p49).
             We the audience thinks that Irene only judges people on appearances and is very opinionated and judgemental and she does not question her own motives which she should and she also thinks that her role is to point things out to other people.
