Battle of Concord and Lexington

The British account claims that they were retreating and were attacked and fired upon from behind walls, trees, and any other obstacles. The Americans on the other hand say that the British had burnt down all the houses during their retreat, and forced women and children naked into the street. The British troops were also accused of shooting and killing all the old men in their houses. .
Instinctively I would have to trust the American account of the day that is, however, because I live in America and I believe what they did was good for our country. But once again, I must believe the British account. For example, Pitcairn ordered the militia, led by John Parker, to be surrounded and disarmed. In response Parker ordered his men to disperse and has been reported to have told his men, "Don't shoot unless fired upon. But if they mean to have a war, let it begin here!"1 Then a shot rang out. No one really knows who fired first, but the British, hearing the shot, fired upon the small group of militia, killing eight, and wounding ten more. The militia then retreated into the woods to avoid the British fire. Now, why would have the British started firing for no apparent reason, they must have fired upon a shot from opposing side. In reality neither source can be fully trusted. There is only one way that we can trust the accounts. The only parts that are trusted are the parts in which both sides confirmed in their written accounts of the day.
Neither source can be fully trusted because they are appealing to their superiors or to other people to join them in their efforts. The British may have attempted to mislead his superiors and making it sound like he did everything he could to complete his assignment when in reality he did not. The Americans may have been appealing to the other colonies and people living here to join them in their fight against the kings rule. They simply did not want to be slaves to the King.
