The Resemblance of Colors


            
             The novel The Great Gatsby was written in the 1920's, after the World War I. Scott Fitzgerald did a good job obtaining the atmosphere of the time period. He uses many techniques to make the book understandable about the people at the time. He uses colors as significant role in the book. The colors establish the mood of the novel and personalities of the characters. There were uses of various colors and objects to relate to the idea of the book. The major colors used in the books were green, white, and grey. Representations of these colors were used to show the meaning of situations, or the character.
             The color green played a major role in the story. The main character of the book, Jay Gatsby was represented by the color green. He was a wealthy man, who was deeply in love with Daisy Buchanan. His feelings and the relationship between them two was represented by the color green. In the beginning of the book, Gatsby was looking out to the flashing green light. It showed he was searching for daisy. Gatsby and Daisy were separated in their past because Gatsby was not rich enough for Daisy. Daisy was later married to Tom Buchanan and had a daughter with him. The color green also represented Gatsby's wealth. He wanted Daisy to show her his new mansion, and how much money he owned. He threw big parties to show off his wealth. .
             Another color used in the book was white, which represented many aspects of the book. White color showed Daisy's gentility and behavior. She acted as a calm, smart, and upper class lady. Her husband, Tom Buchanan had an affair with another lady, Myrtle. She was from a lower class, but wanted to be with the people of the upper society. Myrtle wanted to get married to Tom, so she can have all the fulfillments of Daisy. She usually wore bright color, but as the book approached, she started wearing color in the shades of white. This shows her willing to be like Daisy, so Tom would love her more and leave Daisy.
