Is it time for English to say goodbye?

Speaking English has become a problem faced by many public schools in America. The school systems are beginning to bring in many students of language-minority backgrounds. These same students are falling behind in our system of education be it from the lack of effort, or lack of being able to comprehend the information quickly enough. These problems have left many questioning if English should remain the main language in today's public schools despite the challenge of teaching language minority students. .
The teachers in American public schools are being made to slow down the learning process for students to be able to keep up with the instructions. In James Crawford's book "Language Loyalties" he says, " [ ] with immigration on the rise, as many as eighty languages are represented in some school districts exacerbating the difficulties of recruiting qualified teachers, assessing student skills, and communication with parents (1-2)." This is a prime example of what is going on in today's public schools teachers are either unqualified to teach these students because of the vast diversion in languages. So, the new language-minority students seem to pay the price they are forced into basic skills classes and learning programs that would not be needed if we met the needs of the many that are falling behind. But, on the other side we are doing as much as we can do in order to make the transition with these students maybe it is them that are not putting forth the effort.
Many people believe that public schools have begun diverse away from trying to teach the language-minority students. The American people are beginning to become aware that some of the students are not putting forth the effort to learn their new native tongue. "Sociolinguistic research shows that immigrants are acquiring English, if anything, more rapidly today than at the turn of the century (2)." If this is apparent then why do some of the second generation students who have had parents come to school in America before have such a hard time making the transition.
