At the end, Derek decides not to go with his friend on a scam so he can be there for Sara at her audition for Juilliard. .
             In the movie, Sara has close relationships with some of the characters. First, her relationship with her mother is one of love and happiness. In the flashback, it is evident that Sara's mother loved her very much. When Sara receives a necklace from her mom, her mom tells her, "It's for love, not luck, because you don't need luck. You can dance like an angel." Sara replies, "Aw mom, you"re the best luck I"ll ever have." Besides ballet, Sara's mom was everything to her and after she lost her mother she sees no point in pursuing her dreams. She blames herself for something she had no control over. .
             In the beginning of the film, Sara's relationship with her father, Roy is not very loving. She is resentful because he left her and her mom right after she was born. Her father is not unfriendly but he is not a good father figure. With the lost years, he doesn't know how to raise a grown lady. At the end, Roy surprises Sara with her own room and he lets her know that he loves her and that he didn't mean to ruin her and her mother's lives. .
             The relationship between Sara and Derek is filled with passion, dreams, love, and determination. They both share the same passion for dance, his being hip-hop and hers being ballet. Derek's dream is to attend Georgetown and become a doctor while Sara's dream is to go to Juilliard and perform. They both have to prove to themselves that they can achieve their dreams despite what people think. They want the best for themselves and their lives. With their passion and dreams, they grow to love each other in such a way that can't be described. .
             The biggest issue in this movie is race. The problem with the interracial relationship between Derek and Sara is very evident. It didn't bother them at first but it started causing trouble with the people around them.
