Ambassador of Islam

Living in the country where every race tries to promote its culture, where every religion tries to preach its virtues, where every man tries to be an individual, where every life seeks to influence another, Muslims of America have been strangled between the ropes of representation and the terrorists acts of other Muslims. Now that more than two years have passed since the horrific events of unforgettable September 11th, peace loving American-Muslims are trying to portray the positive face of Islam. In the midst of all this, many are unsure of how to pursue this holy deed.
Islam is, after all, a religion. As all religions, it promotes peace, humility, love, affection and humanity; it is a promoter of common-world morality rather than a force against it. The question then is, how do we inform the world regarding this. Mary and Joe, the average Americans, have their priorities, and I can assure you, my fellow Muslims, that learning about Islam is the last one on their list. .
According to one school of thought, we ought to promote our values, humanity, our love for peace, and all those things that are treasured by us by speaking about them. This idea, according to me, is hideous. It is clear that the followers of this philosophy lack wisdom of understanding that values, humanity, and love for peace are not ideas alien to the world or limited to Islam. As I have stated time and again, religions are not the creators of morality; they are only a medium to enforce them. By preaching the the common Americans these values, we are not preaching them anything new. These teachings do not portray the positive face of Islam; they are teachings of morality, rather than a religion, and are known by everyone. Not to mention, but listening to a sermon about morality is perhaps one of the things I dislike with a passion. Whenever someone tries to preach morality, be it in church or be it a politician's speech, my silent outcry is "yes, we all know about morality, for we too, live in the same world as you; thank you very much.
