Drinking and Driving


            Drunk drivers should lose their licenses permanently. Since drunk driving is a common problem throughout the world, I believe that the only way to slow or stop drunk drivers is to take away their licenses for good. This punishment would make a person think twice about whether or not they should get in the car while under the influence of alcohol. Driving drunk has many consequences. Not only does it affect the drunk driver of the vehicle and the people inside, but it also affects the lives of people outside of the vehicle. Often, the drunk driver comes out of an accident alive and the victims end up dead or in bad conditions.
             Some people may feel that taking away someone's license is a too harsh of a punishment. People use their driver's licenses all the time; to get from place to place and if they work then they need the vehicle for transportation. If a person loses his/her license for drinking under the influence then that was their decision. They could have prevented it from happening. It should inspire people to never drink and drive because of the harsh punishment that they will receive. Static's has shown that on average a driver will drink at least a 1000 times before he or she is caught. To me, that number is way too high and that is a lot of chances that someone could have got injured or even killed. Once you are caught for drinking and driving you will get your license removed for a period of time, get charged and might have to spend a couple of nights in prison. Alcoholalert.com says that once a victim is release from jail, convicted drunk drivers are more likely to commit additional offenses. This is wrong. A more sever punishment has top come into affect. Someone has got to put a stop to these people who act before they think. .
             Pedestrians may feel that their safety is at risk when walking the streets, due to drivers that have been drinking. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers says that Impaired drivers can strike anyone at any time, like a stray bullet hurtling along our country's roadways.
