Guys will Be Guys

When you help an old lady cross the street, it's not because you feel bad for her, it's because you"re selfish. You want to feel good about yourself, therefore you help her. Not only does that look good, but you also did a good deed. The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, is a story of a clan of young boys sharing the same interests and objective of getting of the island but, because of selfishness, the array of children were forced to secede. I believe selfishness is our human nature and selfishness is the basis of this story. Although many of us might apply selfishness a greater amount of the time than others, it's still being selfish. It is obvious to women that men are a tad more selfish than the average.
If we clean the house, it's usually in hope that we can finally get a rest. Because there are nothing but males on this island, it's a given that the novel is headed to a devastating conclusion. Devastating because of the feelings that children have especially those of young boys. Knowing that there is competition, Ralph makes sure that everybody knows that, "I"m chief." There were hormones among the leaders, the eldest, and competition among them all. .
Whether or not we like to admit it, we've always got competition. Along with selfishness, comes competition, which is definitely not pleasant in this situation. They"re both factors which later in the book contributed to the downfall of their democracy and later evolved into two totalitarian dictatorship. Many of us have seen how animals react when others do not respect territory, whether it be in real life or on the Discovery Channel, which is exactly how the boys react in this novel. They all wanted to feel like the largest contributors of the pack. Once it came down to hunting Ralph "looked round the circle of eager faces." Obviously Ralph being the conductor of the clan, and the largest factor to, what planned to be, the success of this colony.
