Worship Analysis

I tried for this project to reflect very different worship services. Most were Adventist including PMC, All Nations, Bet-Benai Shalom (a Hebrew Adventist Synagogue), however one service was a catholic prayer service called Tenebrae. All of the services had similar things, such as prayer, scripture readings and such. However the styles of the services were very different. While the Tenebrae service and the Hebrew Adventist Synagogue were more oriented towards liturgical prayer and scripture, the All Nations Church and PMC were more oriented towards the Sermon consisted of about 1/2 to 2/3 of the service.
In my personal worship style I do appreciate a good sermon or homily, however I find more personal spiritual enlightenment in the liturgical style of worship. While I am aware that a lot of people look more forward to a sermon the most of the rest of the service I do know that I am not alone in feeling blessed by the liturgical side of worship service. One of my favorite quotes from the scriptures is Palm 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God." In these type of services I do appreciate that more. It gives me a chance for my own reflection in my life in a setting that God is present in. What better place to reflect on ones life, then in the mist of prayer? What better place to think about the problems that you are having in your life then in the quietness of community worship? .
In settings were the sermon is the main focus the pastor does his best to feed the congregation with what he/ or she believes is important to hear. However, there are times when what one needs to hear can not come from the lips of the pastor but through the reflection of oneself. There have been times in my life were the pastor has said exactly what I needed to hear and the right time. However there have been other times when the sermon really did not apply to my life at hand and the problems I was going through distracted me so much that I had no idea what the Pastor was talking about.
