Engineering

For most of us we come to college to further our education. By getting a better education we can obtain higher paying jobs, and with these jobs we can live a better lifestyle. These jobs also add to our social status and our physical well being. Some of these higher paying jobs add some extra money in our pockets so that we can buy all the things we dreamed about as kids.
Now that I am in college I have to decide what job I want to have in my future. I have decided to become a civil engineer after college. I chose to become a civil engineer because I have good mathematic and science skills and I thought that they could best be utilized by being an engineer. I knew I had good mathematic skills by getting a twenty-nine on the ACT exam, and my science skills were evident by the twenty-five I received on the same exam.
Being an engineer is a very serious job that shouldn't be taken lightly. The skills required for this job range anywhere from the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems, the ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, the aptitude for computing and design, practicality and creativity, the ability to work without supervision, the ability to accept responsibility, the knowledge of other engineering disciplines, and the willingness to contribute and adhere to the safety requirements of the operation (Civil Engineer). Just from that list of skills I can tell that becoming an engineer will be a challenge.
Here at Notre Dame College we don't have an engineering program, but we have a three-two program or binary program set up with Case Western Reserve University. The Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and certifying the quality of engineering and technology programs at colleges and universities in the United States (Careers). Case Western Reserve University is certified as an accredited school of engineering.
